Honda bf15 shifter linkage problem

My upper shifter linkage is stripped, can you remove and replace by disconnecting at engine compartment linkage and drop down? Or lift up, and in that case will it make it around powerhead. It’s a 1997 4 stroke

Hi,
I haven't done one of these but I suspect that, since the upper rod is arrow straight, it will come out the too if you first remove the barrel nut at the bottom. See item 11 in the link below.

I don't think that it comes out the bottom like the older models that you could unscrew the upper coupling from.
Your rod's coupling head can't be removed and will probably hang up on the water seals (items 70 in the link below) if you try to take it out from below.

That's my best guess anyway. But it is just a guess.

As you can see in the top link I sent you, item 11 isn't available so, once you get it out, you will need to repair it yourself unless you can find a good used replacement.

Good luck

Apologies....
I sent you links from the 9.9 hp parts pages.
Bur the concept is pretty much identical for the 15. See item 11 in the link below.

The part numbers are the same for both outboards.

Sorry though if I confused you.
Thanks for reply, that’s what I was thinking of with seal, hopefully I can get a little deflection going up as powerhead casing is directly above, then pull start assembly, the latter being easy to remove, powerhead removal not so much
