Honda BF135 Super Hot Alternator

Got my boat back from the shop yesterday. See thread for (Honda BF135 Idling problem). Anyhow, after running it around for about an hour and a half I pulled the cover to look things over. I noticed the alternator was so hot you couldn't touch it. Even the plastic cover covering the belt was hot. This is not normal.

Both batteries have 12.6 volts with engine off. With engine running it's about 13.8 volts. Both batteries are topped with water. I remember last year seeing, (on GPS screen), 14.4 volts charging when engine is running above 1500 RPM and 13.8 below 1500. This I believe is normal condition.

Anybody have any ideas or thoughts??

your charging specs are normal. only two things can cause a hot alternator......a bad bearing, or too tight of a adjustment of the alternator belt.

One other possibility is a lack of air flow around the alternator. If convenient, try running the boat with the engine cover removed to see if it still overheats.
