HONDA BF130 Internal Changes 1999-2003

Any body know the differences, if any, between a 1999 BF 130 and a 2003 BF 130? I am thinking of a low hrs. 99 to replace a tired 03 on a twin application.

Can't help on the differences, but I would be very suspicious of an 11 year old outboard with low hours. Any engine that sits around for a long time with low usage is trouble in the making unless it has been properly preped for long-term storage.

Some of the older 130's had issues with cracks in the water passage with let water into the cylinders. At the time, they should have been inspected and the powerhead replaced if there were signs of cracks.

The fuel system should have been updated to new highpressure fuel pump inside the vapor separator...not attached under the vapor separator about the same time.

I think there were some subtle changes to the lower unit, ecm, and head. I can not remember how significant the changes were...

I am with chawk...be suspicious of the good deal/low hour motor. Unfortunately, there is no way to put a computer on the 130 to determine the hours like you can the newer fuel injected models.
