Honda alarm

I’ve got a 2011 Honda 150hp with an alarm. Haven’t checked it out too much but the throttle position sensor is broken off and unplugged. Will this cause an alarm? Motor runs great otherwise. I don’t have the warning lights hooked up for check engine, oil, etc.

Hi,

I don't work on these but I see that you've not received any responses so far. So, I'll just ask a couple of questions and make a couple of comments/ suggestions to help you possibly "brainstorm" the issue.

I don't think the TPS being unplugged will cause an alarm but I don't know for sure. It  will log a code though. But, with no warning lamps hooked up, you would need the Dr.H tool to read it. You probably already knew that.

Something that  might cause an alarm is overheat. Are you sure it's not overheating?

When was the last waterpump service or thermostat replacement?

This outboard has three water temperature sensors....2 in the thermostat housing and 1 in the exhaust manifold. Any one of those reporting high temp might cause the alarm. I know that if they are unplugged or if the wiring is damaged they will log a code but not sure if that would cause an alarm.

With the TPS being unplugged the engine will likely be operating in a less than emissions/fuel efficient manner.

That may be causing an issue to develope with the oxygen sensor which, I think, can cause the alarm to sound.

It might be a "worm that eats it's own tail" situation in that the fuel mapping gets skewed due to no TPS. Which, in turn, may be affecting the the way the O2 reports which then skews the fuel/air mix even more up to the point that the ECM might not be "keeping up" with what's happening. I don't know. Just speculation on my part.

I get that the throttle body is  nasty expensive but running the engine without the TPS may just be bringing you more problems in the long run.

Just some ideas. Hopefully you'll get better answers or figure it out. If you do please update your findings.

Good luck

Thanks for the help. I don’t believe it is over heating. The alarm comes on as soon as you start the engine. Just bought the engine, when the owner ran the motor for me it was fine. Got it all hooked up on the boat and now it’s throwing the alarm. Maybe water in fuel but I unplugged the sensor for that and still have alarm
