Honda 50 winterization

I own a 1998 Honda 50 hp four stroke. This weekend I winterized the boat by placing a tarp on it and completed the following to the motor. I ran the motor in a tank of fresh water until I achieved operating temp. I add star tron and stabile to the fuel as the motor ran. I disconnected the fuel line and let the motor run out of fuel. I removed the cover and drained all three carburetors of any remaining fuel. I reinstalled the cover and lower the motor to a downward position. Did I miss anything?....

I think you're ok...draining the carbs is a GOOD thing. Many save changing the oil, filter and gear oil until spring but I like to park one with fresh oils in it. That way, she's ready to go when the sun shines and there's less likelihood of having bearings sitting for long periods in acidic, used oils.

If you're thinking of storing the fuel, I wouldn't do it. While it might be ok with the additives you listed using, today's gasoline just doesn't store well regardless. I would burn the gas in my car and buy fresh in the spring.

Good luck.

Agreed with jgmo, I think you are in good shape. I have a 50 too and in addition to what you did, I replace the inline fuel filter, the racor primary filter on my transom, and do oil and gear oil changes. I also remove each spark plug and fog each cylinder, but i am not sure the fogging is really necessary, especially if the fuel has additive in it.

Fogging can not hurt, Drain your fuel/water separator, there could be water in there that could freeze, Refill and reinstall separator. A washdown and wax of motor would not be a bad idea! Spraying under cowl with 5-56 is a plus

To anyone who decides to "fog" their engine for storage, please remember to remove the spark plugs and rotate the engine a few revolutions to ensure that cylinders are clear prior to actually firing up. Even a very minute amount of liquid left in a cylinder can cause severe engine damage.

Just sayin'
