Honda 225 Prop Pitch

Question on prop pitch: I have a 14.25 x 15 stainless prop, max RPM is about 6250 at full throttle, which is slightly above the 6000 rpm recommended by Honda. Would I be okay to run this prop if I kept the RPM below 6000, or would this create excess revs on the engine even when I run at cruise?

I also have a 15 x 17 stainless, which maxes out right at 6000 at full throttle, but honestly, the boat performs a lot better with the 14.25 x 15 prop, and I even get slightly better gas mileage at cruise (4600 rpm).

The 225 has an RPM limiter that limits it to 6250 maximum. So, if you feel that the current 14.25 prop works best, no problem. However, if you are getting 6000 RPM from the 15 X 17 prop, that's telling you that the 14.25 is likely too small for optimum efficiency. I'm surprised that you are getting better gas mileage. I suspect it is due to how you are using the boat.
