Honda 225 Mid level Bushing Question

I just replaced the mid level shaft bushing on my 2002 225 Honda. When I ran the motor in yard on a hose the mid section gets very hot to the touch. Is this normal? I remember that it would get warm but should it get hot to touch? The old bushing did wear through the bronze but the rubber was still in tact. Thanks all.

Rabbit ears on a hose does not adequately cool that engine. You need to run it in a tank. Fill a large garbage can with water put engine in to at least the cavitation plate and try again.

Yes I agree. The section that is getting hot is the same section that has the oil drain plug. I know that when the motor is in the water the surrounding water will cool that section.
