Honda 225 leaking cooling water inside the engine

Ok I notoced my "p hole" was not pissing so I checked to see if it was clogged. It was but I still didn't get a full stream. I noticed a leak in the engine but I cant see where it is coming from ( no visible hoses off). The engine has 500 hours and is a 2009 so I am pretty sure we wouldn't have metal deteriorating? Is there an internal hose that can rot or come off? Is there a gasket issue?

Ideas welcome.
 
You need to remove the upper cowling - about 30 10 mm bolts and thoroughly inspect. I suspect that the hose to the telltale (p hole) may be cut or broken. If not that, then run the engine in a test tank with the cowling off and determine where the water is coming from.

Thank you with the cowling off the leak seems to be up between the two heads any ideas

Inspect around thermostats for leaking or cracks. Ten start looking around the water jacket seals. You need to pinpoint the source of the leak before figuring out what to do next.
 
I will dig into it today but the leak is way inside under the engine. Seems the back black cover will need to come off to get to it? I am wondering if this could be a freeze plug? This is a Florida boat so it didn't freeze but are they known to corrode ? Is the thermostat up there as well?

I appreciate the help.
 
Ok we are stripping this down and we are still having trouble finding the leak. It is clearly behind the intake manifold and high to middle. When I put the hose on the flush port It comes out strongly. Could this be a freeze plug? I don't see a failed hose which would be an easy fix. I guess the next step is to take off the intake manifold? agree?

Any other ideas?
 
The engine block on the 225's can corrode through from the water cavity to the outside.
It occurs in the small of the "V" & IIRC it is near the top.
Hopefully that is not your problem.

I have had the same problem that started around last November 2013. I have triple 2008 Honda 225's with about 280 hours on them. I was busy and couldn't' tear down the engine until march. I had a hole in the lower part of the power head leaking water. It just ate right through. No corner, no pressure point, just a hole like in the side of a straw. I had to pull the intake and exhaust manifolds plus one head to get to it. I fixed it with JB weld after thoroughly cleaning the surface. I pressed a piece of flat aluminum into the epoxy to add rigidity and so no epoxy would go into the hole. Got it back together and ran great. Only problem, NOW I HAVE ANOTHER DAMN HOLE! it's about 1/4 inch hole on the port side about an inch below the head inside the intake manifold valley on the side of the middle cylinder. Yes, another head removal is required to get to it!

This time, since I can see the hole with just the airbox removed, I am thinking of getting a long 1/4 inch drill to drill the hole to a circle instead of jagged edges. Then I'm thinking of putting a rubber plug into the hole (like a screw type drain plug). I worry thought that the metal around the hole may deteriorate further and start leaking again.My other option is to try and get the dremel six inches under the intake manifold to sand the area and epoxy it again. I'm thinking of putting epoxy in a straw and "blowing" it onto the hole to seal it.

They are in the block. Right below the sensor (see pic above). Thats why i said it is bad idea.
who wants to pull the block to replace 2 anodes.. Nobody..
the best way to prevent this problem.. We need to flush the motor more often.
 
I was not aware there were any other anodes in the block, other than the 4 in the manifolds. Do you have a diagram that shows where they are located?
 
The description for #5 says it is an oil control. The manifold anodes are described as anodes, so I can't see why they would not call any other anodes that as well.

I pretty interested in this also. The Helm shop manual only addresses the anodes in the manifolds, which is truly a stupid design.
 
I found the part you are referring to. It is an anode on the bottom of the block, but only shows up in the 2007 and later BF225's. This is the reason it was not in my diagram. My engines are 2003's and don't appear to have these. I guess it was added to the later models. Here is the diagram

HOLY COW! A total of 8 more anodes to be worried about! Parts #4 (6) and #5 (2). And it looks like you cannot get to them unless you remove the heads and about everything else. That's pretty disheartening.
