Holiday 200 V-6 don't sound like Any motor ever put in a OMC powered boat...

cadorette 1986 holiday 200 has a omc v6 and a merc cobra stern drive

Ayuh,.... We're gettin' Closer....

The Boat is irrelevant to yer motor....
OMC used a couple of Very different V-6s, so We need to know Which 1....

it is a 4.3 litre engine , i inherited this boat and it sat for many years and has been rebuilt recently dont have any paper work on it other than ownership , where would i find the exact model number for u etc

the 4.3 v6 is simply a chevy v8 with two cylinders lopped off. They have been making them by the tens of thousands for decades.
There is nothing mysterious about it. If it is backfiring then you have a fuel or timing problem. Go thru the distributor set up procedure again. Make sure the fuel is flowing properly and that the carb is in good shape.

Look for a tag behind the engine starboard side just below where the head meets the block.
About your problem, when you run this boat use a external tank of clean fuel hooked straight up to the fuel pump. Clean the filter in the fuel pump and the filter in the fitting that enters the carb.

1986 oem came with points in the dist... you installed a new set ? Wires good. Plugs good ? Hell maybe you gave it a complete tuneup ?

Me i rebuilt my carb. My 86' sat for 8 years before i got it. What carb it have on it ? Maybe a Rochester 2cg maybe ?

Get back to us.

ya did that too the motor was rebuilt from top to bottom as mine sat for many years also , it only has 135 hours on the hull etc, wondering if distibutor is 180 degrees out , not sure is number 1 cylander

Verify accelerator pump is working properly and the float is set to proper height. And no water contamination in the fuel. Assume when you rebuilt the carb you replaced both fuel filters, one in the carb and one in the fuel pump. Has a fuel/water sep. been added yet? After carb and fuel check check timing.

Just posting this off the top of my head. You going lean i think thats the reason for the popping out the carb.

I agree with Master Mechanic. IF...it's a Buick V6, the timing should be 5 degrees ADVANCED. Thats what I set mine to. I had the same problem, only at WOT (wide open throttle). Replaced the points, plugs and wires, re-set the timing, and it runs sweet.
If its a 1 barrel (like mine) turn your mixture jet all the way in (DONT force it at the bottom...be GENTLE ) then, back it out 1 and 1/4 turns as a starting point. Better to be a little rich, than lean. Too lean, and you'll blow a piston, or burn a valve. Good Luck !!!!
