Hearing a intermittent clunking/thunging sounds..
Trying listening to w a tesascopecw local
Mechanic.. he States could be a broken/loose pin connecting piston to connecting rod..
Or could be a bad bushing on connecttingrod..
Called two mechanics they both weeks out before can look at..
Any suggestion on trouble shooting these issues ?

Jamie - it might be time to retire those engines. Seems like the Honda 200's and 225's made from 2007 forward have significantly fewer problems.

Had two different mechanic's tell me sounds like wrist pins on piston..
Bring her in next week to get looked at..
I am not giving up on them yet, but back of my mine have thought same thing..

I actually think thats relatively inexpensive way to have a new powerhead. And torquing down the cylinder heads, adjusting valves and adding the accessories is fairly straight forward. The only thing I think would be a challenge is mating powerhead to mount case..just my 2 cents. If you were here is S. Texas, I'd be glad to help you.

Jamie - can you provide more detail on that. How did you diagnose it and find that was the problem, and exactly what was vibrating up?

Took To Honda Mechanic , He Draine Gearcase Metal Shavings.. When Originall Checked It Was In Water So Don't Think Could Here Exact Noise Coming From.. I Think Vibration From Bad Gearcase Traveling Up To Motor Thus SoundsFrom block

odered gearcase on Monday arrived here thurs 1030 am couldn't be happier ..took me like 30 mintues to replace spend more time ensuring thrust bushing c-clip was secure then installing gear case..
those who don't have one , my favorite tool when taking gear case off is my box 14 mm ratchet wench makes taking bolts off/on simple

spoke to charter guide yesterday got 7000 hrs on his Hondas before corrosion got to his/// hopeful thinking for me

Do you flush your engines regularly? Those blocks do have a weak spot for corrosion and we had two fail at around 1000 hours due to not being flushed often enough. Honda fronted up with two new powerheads under the 5 year warranty, but there was a fair bit of goodwill involved in that decision. Anyway, they didn't even try to suggest that the corrosion was a one off issue and we made a serious change to how often they get flushed after the new powerheads. I like these engines, but compared to some of the other ones we have these need a lot more flusing to prevent corrosion issues.

It is my understanding that using a standard flushing procedure with a garden hose on the 200's and 225's does not get fresh water up into upper part of the engine around the t-stats. I've never checked that, but will try to determine if it does the next time I pull the boat.

Water flow from flush port blue.jpg

Flush water is in blue.

Personally, I do flush the engine after every use whenever I can, but sometimes I need to park it overnight at a neighbor's pier because I can't get on my own lift due to low tides.

ok took boat out today w new gear case..
I get a clunking sound after shifter is enaged few second ?
is this a gearcase issue or a **** cable adjustment? If I enage shifter fast doesn't make clunking or in reverse no clunk

The corrosion we had wasn't at the thermostats. it was on the rear of the engine and part way down the block. Same on both engines and I am pretty sure that it wasn't unique to us. You raise a good point though and I need to try and work out whether the flush port gets into that area. Boat lives on the water, but we could still use muffs and fresh water to flush it if the flush port doesn't reach those areas.
