Hello my name is Dylan I’m new to the forum my first post. Hoping somebody can help me out

I have a few questions/concerns about my lower unit on my 1996 XR6 150 OG361176. I drained my lower unit oil and it was pitch black with a hint of blue in the sun light is that normal?

Also had a few fine metal shavings on the magnet of the drain plug is that something to worry about? some things I’ve read online say no others say yes.

The water pump housing had melted spots in it and I had to wind up cutting the water pump off, the driveshaft has a discoloring to it like it’s been hot before I put all this back together should I carry my lower unit somewhere and get it checked out?

Any help will be greatly appreciated this is my first big boat I’ve always had small motors or mud motors on flat bottoms so a lot of this stuff is new to me thanks

Oil is degraded and needs changed..use the Hi-Po oil not a 80w-90 weight....

Metal is normal on magnet as long as its super fine and you cannot feel it if rubbed lightly between fingers

DS discoloring is ok but go to link below and make sure part #10 is silicone in place or it will heat pump housing...

Okay thank you so much I feel a lot better now to put it all back together. I will have to check out that part I know there was some orange rtv silicone on a spot by the water pump I’ll try to post a picture
