Hey all, so I recently purchased a boat with an etec 250 outboard. It’s been sitting for the winter and I saw some yellow fluid seems to be oil sitting on the engine. I attached photos of where I saw the oil coming from. Does anyone know where there’s a possiblity of a leak being from there. It seems to be the exhaust housing but didn’t know oil runs there

I would have the lower unit pressure tested. Looks to me either the shift shaft and or the driveshaft seals are leaking gear lube.

I would have thought that the places you see the oil are too high for it to be gear case oil leaking just while sitting idle.

The first priority is to determine if it is gear oil, engine lubricating oil or trim and tilt fluid

Yeah I’d like to think it is too high for it to be gear case oil plus isn’t most blue? I wiped it down yesterday so I’m waiting to see if it forms again if it does I will check the type of fluid. Hoping it’s an easy fix

I added another photo of the location of the leak. Maybe it’ll help more just as a reference. Like the other user says it seems a bit high but I appreciate the advice and I’m definitely going to be checking it out

better photo for reference of wheee the leak is

Better picture yes. So thus I would suggest you check the onboard oil tank. They are prone for leaking. Mostly due to cracks in the seams where the cap is located.

Don't think that motor has a oil tank, G2's yes. Most likely a hose from oil pump to block leaking.
