hi guys i really need sum ideas my 87 xr2 150 has jus been rebuilt has good compression, good spark, and seems to me that it getting enough fuel. it will idle great and run wot great almost 65 mph but every time i have to go thru a no wake zone when i go to take off again it will jump up about 500 to a 1000 rpm like it going to then jus dies (not cut off) badly bog, load up, smoke like crazy. i can take it out of gear rev it sometimes have to left the motor out of water and rev it it will clear out and take back off. it is a real pain in the butt and costing me 4 sets of plugs on bout 5 hrs of run time. please any ideas thanks a ton

The plugs should last a season !!!-----------Find out what is wrong with the motor.------Check to see if thermostats are installed.------Check carburetor low speed adjustment.

yes i knw the plugs should last a couple seasons but everytime i have to troll it kills them as far as the thermostats go im not sure if it has them or exactly where they are it takes about 45 sec in warm lake water to start peeing much longer when hooked to a hose and from everything ive seen there are no adjusment on these carbs only rejetting guess this problem has me and everyone else stumped as well i havent been able to get a good answer anywhere

Check the thrmostats on YOUR motor.---------Check the poppit valve too.---------A rebuild must have had a new impeller installed and it should not take 45 seconds for the indicator to show water !!!

yes i have new water pump impeller the quick flow out of the pee hole seemed odd to me but this is my first outboard engine the bleed lines was not hooked up correctly (which i think led to the broke ring and cause of rebuild) when i got it infact it was missing 2 of them and when i took the motor apart alot of fuel ran out of the reed block and the motor had not been ran in 7 months i have vacuum on all the bleed lines but im starting to think they r the cause of my problems what is the best way to check them

45 second is way too slow for it to start " peeing " -------------A factory manual would show the routing of your bleed lines..-------------Was the cause of the failure corrected ?????---Were the carburetors cleaned and inspected ?????-------------Failure to find what went wrong usually means you will have to rebuild it again !!

i bought the boat being told it ran and was jus rebuilt but needed a starter found a bad ground wire which fixed the starter got it to run but had no power compression test lead to down clyd pulled apart and found broke ring my guess to what broke the ring and i mean guess is the missing bleed lines got manual hooked up bleed lines correctly have small amount of vacuum on each i just went outside ran the engine and pulled plug wires while running 1 & 2 wires made huge impact, #3 made some impact, when i pulled 4 5 & 6 it made no change have spark plugs may jus b that bad carbs have been took apart wasnt dirty soaked in seafoam and blew out with blow nozzle pulled t-stats one looks fairly new the other looks like it from the 80s poppet valve looks fairly new jus a rubber diag no springs or anything don really see what it does

There is more to the poppit valve than " jus a rubber diag no springs or anything "--------------At this point I can only say you need to look this up on --------------mercruiserparts.com--------------And really take a close look at every thing on this motor.-----It does not sound like it was properly rebuilt to me.---------Maybe just a bad CDI ignition box that is not giving you spark.----------Do a REAL spark test and see if all six will jump a gap of 7/16" with a snap you should hear.

jus to let everyone know took my boat to a buddy of a buddy that is a outboard mechanic he looked out for about 2 mins listened to it run for a couple seconds and solved the problem. When the motor was took apart the first time they unbolted the outer flywheel from the crank hub and didnt put it back together in the right holes. He said i soon as i find the right holes and spin it around it will run perfect
