Help Please with 1997 Johnson Spl 90 power trim

Hi

Hope you can help me with this. I am not very good with tracking things like this down due to very poor eye sight. Anyway, the other day we put the boat in the water and the "down" on the power trim would not work unless you hit the up a couple times very quickly and then the down. Then it stopped working completely in the up position. I read online about the trim relays and opened that up and sure enough when I would hit down on the button, the relay would click but do nothing. I then reversed the relays and sure enough, the motor would go down but not up. Problem solved, right - wrong. I went and got the new relay and popped it in and the down will still not work unless you hit the up three or four times very quickly and then the down. ????Could the up relay be causing the down relay not to work? I am baffled and ANY help with this would be a great help - Thanks in advance

UPDATE - Not really sure why but we went out there and reversed the relays again. Same as before even with the "new" relay but since they were reversed the UP was the one that only worked part time but the down was fine and this was with the NEW relay in the up side. Put them back the way they were and now for some reason it is working in both directions?? Suppose I know what to do if it stops again - With luck and use we will be good to go. Boat had been sitting since last year under the carport.
