Hey there, let me start by introducing myself. I'm Corey from SE Iowa.

I just recently bought a boat off a guy I know very cheap knowing that it had engine problems, I knew what had happened before I bought it. The engine is a 175 Mercury Sport Jet, he ran it out of oil and put a hole through the block in one of the cylinders.

So basically is there anywhere to find a used block and probably rotating assembly for these engine? Perferably not for a million dollars haha. What would be my best bet just to rebuild the whole thing from the block up? He said everything ran perfect when it still had oil so some of the parts should be salvagable. Also while working on it can I bypass the oil injection and just mix it with the gas so I dont have to worry about this happening again?

Any 175 2.5 block or shortblock will work but you will have to use your crank as splines are different....

if worst comes to worst could you put a chevy 6cyl in it?
No..... but if you set yer mind to it anything is possible. Years ago had a fellow bring in a old boat with opel motor and baby mercruiser drive, told him no parts made for it in years. About year later he shows up with boat to show how he fixed it, it had a datsun 4 cylinder motor with transmission attached to drive output, small radiator water cooled from lake and linkage to change gears!!!!! He said it would fly in 4th!!!!!!

any chance you could get your hands on any used parts? all the people I know dont work on mercs, and if they do they want a million dollars for the parts

What ya want? What year is the motor as they have a o-ring block and standard block. I have both styles and I can machine them and have them ready in about a week...$1200 ea. If you want to send me your complete power head and crank is good I can rebuild it with new pistons .new bearings, seals, rod bolts, gaskets, carbs built all internals new except rods and crank for $4200 and it will be turn key ready, all you got to do is install and go.....
