gimbal bearing problem

When I pulled my lower unit the gimbal bearing came with it....stuck on drive shaft - u joints very rusty..... Does that mean the housing is damanged?

*Does the bearing turn or is it seized?
*Did it requires a lot of force to pull to the drive off or did it slip right off? In other words, was the bearing & bearing carrier spun in the housing until housing was worn or seized to the shaft & you yanked & pulled the assembly out.

If the housing is good, you will need U-joints, possibly a new shaft, inspect splines in the coupler (it may also have been out of alignment).
*I would pull input shaft out & disassemble it, expect to find it worn & pitted. Probably will need replacement along with seal & o-ring.

You will need to find the source of water/moisture. Bad u-joint bellows? Inproperly installed bellows? Chineseum gasket set that frequently have poorly sized big rubber seal? Boat possible flooded for an extended timeframe?

fairly common when water is entering the bellow for a extended period of time. Should have been viable with water in the bilge, 2 vent holes in the housing extend into the bilge and can be seen visually
Determine the source
replace bellow if aged.
drive off bearing ,clean up shaft, clean housing where gimbal enters
replace U joints, inspect yoke for rusting or grooving
