Hi
So it occurred to me today that i have used the wrong sealant on powerhead gasket and exhaust plate gasket(not sure if i got there names right but the two gaskets that are between the midsection and powerhead.
I did this 3months ago.Engine has not been in water yet with new gaskets.
The gasket eliminator i used was called locktite 510 its meant for flange to flange contact not gaskets. When i brought the stuff i must of had a miss understanding with the guy who sold it to me.I thought it could be used on gaskets.
Now locktite 510 apparently only seals between to metal, alloy etc surfaces it seals with absence of air
So i'm guessing the locktite would be soaked into the paper gaskets and doing nothing really now.I talked to tec support today from locktite and he said it would be probably okay.(i'm not sure how much he knows about outboards though)
Could this cause any problems?whould the sealant go places its not supposed to?
Should i pull the powerhead back of and start again?
Or should i not worry?in the workshop manual it doesn't mention to use any gasket sealant. At the time i thought i would be double protective and get a good seal no matter what. Opps i used the wrong stuff.
Thanks
