The 2144 is going to be the fault code... The 6 (in your case) is the fault type code number...

Number 6 =
Faulted = The device, hardware, a calculation, or a process has failed a rationality check or has detected a fault.
So in your case it is not cylinder number 6....All the cylinders are affected.
You'll want to start off with a new cap and rotor as that is the most suspected issues with this design distributor...Looks good and actual good are 2 different things for this cap... Also be sure the cap and rotor are seated correctly and the hold down screws / threads are not damaged as the housing is plastic.... Next try new spark plugs... Has any service work been done recently? or is this all of a sudden?.. Do you hear / notice a misfire in the engine?...< Meaning possibly fake...
This code has come up online a few times when searched so the following are of some other thoughts but please know one is for a 4 cylinder, and it was suggested cylinder number 4 is the issue but that shouldn't be the case as the code is for all cylinders according to a service manual like noted above....If you can't fix it with a tune up and the engine internals are good, then you may need to reach out to Mercruiser to see of you need an update in the PCM by a service dealer like mentioned in the sea ray thread below.
