exaust coming into upper engine

early 80's 50hp Mercury 2 stroke. pulled lower unit. exaust tube is intact, gasket is in good shape. can anyone recomend anything?

Checked gasket between engine and exhaust housing.------Squirting some oil into the engine while idling may help find the leak.
