I did it has the rod that comes down from the motor and the other end comes out from the lower unit I hooked it back up and when I shift with the lever up by the motor is see the rod moving up and down but doesn’t come out of reverse. If I have it Un hooked and try to push the lower rod down sometime it won’t go down unless I turn it a certain way? Is the rod coming from the lower unit suppose to turn or just the nut on it?Did.you reconnect the shifting linkages.
....as long as you are spinning/turning the lower rod by hand you can't do any damage. Turn it until it stops/bottoms out. I think Racerone is suggesting that you possibly somehow backed the lower rod up/out....which got it out of adjustment. If the lower rod was adj too far out that would have it stuck in reverse.....even with the shifter in the forward position. So.....turn the lower rod down as far as it will go. IF it doesn't bottom out in a reasonable distance then you will need to find out why it won't.....stripped threads? Rod completely backed out and you aren't actually threading it in farther as you turn?It seems to just continue to spin not sure how much I have to keep spinning I got confused with the answer about twirling the prop when shifting
Trying to turn the prop by HAND is not going to damage the gears. Turning the prop, which in turn will turn the gears, will allow the gears to engage/disengage easier as you move the shift rod. (Assuming the shift rod is adjusted to the point that the gears CAN disengage)if I try to turn the prop when it is in gear will it mess the gears up?
