Where do you find the engine serial # on a 1990 mercruiser 4.3 v6. I’m going to need this to get parts in the future, but don’t know where to look for it. Thanks, Kirk

another thing.... can I use an auto oil filter on this motor? Or is there a difference in a marine grade?

Zero difference on the filter Chevy makes two sizes long (high performance ) and short either work fine. Same filter for this , the inline Chevy 6 and V8 s

serial number will be on the flame arrest or cover and also riveted to the back of block just above the starter

How do I go about ordering the right one? I’m a bit confused... when I go to parts dept. here, it has a Ford filter, and now you are saying it’s a Chevy filter....

I’m still trying to get a handle on what I’m working on here. I always associated Mercruiser with Mercury, and Mercury being a Ford model. Am I all wet?

Please excuse my ignorance. I’m just getting into this. Kirk

Until recently Mercruiser did not "make" inboard engines, but rather "marinized" engines, usually from Chevy. NO relationship between Mercury Marine and the old Mercury brand of cars by Ford.

This is the part number for a quicksilver 4.3 oil filter 35-16595Q

it’s available on this site or really at any auto parts store just looking for a Chevy 4.3 l v6 filter

disregard my comments in first post as I thought you had a 3.0 4 cylinder. The 4.3 takes a different filter than all other Chevy based motors assuming it is not a remote filter setup and screws into the block.

I appreciate your help guys....

Having a new boat is pretty exciting, but this old girl needs some TLC before i start playing with it too much. I'm kind of anal about maintenance on most of my toys, and leaving a boat set for long periods with no up keep is not good IMO.

The previous owner put a lot of work into this baby before selling it. But I just want to go through all the basics to insure everything has been done right and start my maintenance log so we don't have problems right from the start.

My boats do not set unused around here. I fish 10 months out of the year, and we plan to use this boat a lot. I did get rid of my drift boat. My wife, and favorite fishing partner , prefers trolling over shooting rapids in a drift boat in foul weather. i cant understand why..... Also having something big enough we can take the kids and grand kids out in too will be a huge bonus. Might even drag the kids around in a tube a bit this summer too. But mostly we'll be fishin....
