Engine Sensor

Came up with some error codes.
Where should I start looking?

O2 engine sensor
Fault code 822-16, 842-16
Merc 4.5 L with 123 hours.

This came up at the beginning of the season and then went away. 30 hours later and the code is back. Ran it a few times today and the code is not clearing. Just changed the oil if that makes a difference.

Thanks

Probably need to replace the O2 sensor. I think in the wet exhaust their lifetime is limited. Put your serial number in the boat engine parts ( upper left on this page will take you there)

I believe there should be 4 fuses, one for each Oxygen sensor so give them all a thorough inspection.

The below information is the best I could capture out of the Mercruiser PCM 112 service manual that fits your fault codes… number 16 indicates Output fault The ECU has detected a problem when trying to output a signal to this.

PCM 112 Fault Tables
Fault

DescriptionType CodeFault TypesNotes
822Wideband 02 sensor heater port S1 (precatalyst)4Range highThis could indicate an extremely high exhaust temperature. If all other faults have been addressed, this indicates a bad sensor. To diagnose, replace the suspect sensor with a known good sensor, or switch the port and starboard sensors to determine if the fault follows the sensor.
5Range lowIf all other faults have been addressed, this indicates a bad sensor. To diagnose, replace the suspect sensor with a known good sensor, or switch the port and starboard sensors to determine if the fault follows the sensor.
16Output faultIf all other faults have been addressed, this indicates a bad sensor, a blown fuse, or an issue with the wiring harness. To diagnose, replace the suspect sensor with a known good sensor, or switch the port and starboard sensors to determine if the fault follows the sensor.

Believe you'll be looking for the 4 as seen as location J,

To troubleshoot the fault codes 822-16 and 842-16 on your Mercury 4.5L engine, start by checking the O2 sensor connections and wiring for any damage or corrosion, as loose or faulty connections can trigger these codes. Since the issue returned after a brief absence, it may indicate an intermittent fault or a sensor malfunction. Additionally, inspect the exhaust system for leaks, as they can affect O2 sensor readings. If you've recently changed the oil, ensure it’s at the correct level, as low oil can sometimes cause sensor issues. My younger sister had an essay due for her Sociology class, but she was stuck on how to structure it. I helped her find Academized’s https://academized.com/pay-for-essay pay-for-essay service, and it was just what she needed. The writer provided a thoughtful, well-organized essay, and she was able to turn it in without any stress. It’s a great service if you need help with essays on short notice.
Can I ask something regarding this issue here or should I start my own thread? I am sorry if I did something wrong.
