Looking for the engine (30hp) model here so I can download the manual. I have checked everywhere and cant seem to find it. There is a spot where it "may" have been but seems to have rubbed off. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

I believe most Honda ENGINE SERIAL numbers are stamped near the starter. But, you should be able to order parts using the FRAME number which should be on the side of the frame about "swivel high".

It is my experience that outboards with missing frame or serial numbers have been stolen at some point in their existence. They just don't get accidentally "rubbed" away as I had some guy try to tell me once.

Considering the boat came with a title (not thinking the engine is "separate" obviously) that never crossed my mind. The stamp does look naturally worn and I feel like they would just remove the whole thing if that was the objective but you may be right. Anyway, is this the "stamp" where the model would be located? EVERYWHERE I read says its on one of the mounting brackets. Someone has to own, or has owned this year range and the cover is clearly different than the newer ones. I am really confused though because none on the original PDF manuals have years on their websites or on Google searches but there's no way all the pieces for early 2000 years fit the 2013 BF30 models. The cover could be from a different year but I doubt it and the stickers on it are different than the newer ones.

You're right, that looks "naturally" worn away. But I also don't think that is the "frame number" label either. It should be lower and on the SIDE of the frame. It should look similar to that label but a bit skinnier. They don't put them where the one in your photo is because it IS an "exposed" area.

If it is still on the outboard it won't say "BF 30 A xxxxxx" either. It will look more like:

BAWS 3005002

Or

BAWE 1093658.

That's a "middle of the road" set of numbers I picked out for 1999 to 2001 30hp frame number series.

The earlier 30's (1998) will start with BAWL followed by seven numbers and the later ones (2003 to 2011) would start with either BAUJ or BEAUJ With that last set of letters being the beginning for 2011 model engine numbers. I don't have anything for outboards built after 2011.

I hope this doesn't confuse you even more.

That "BAWE" rang a bell from a few days ago and I went back and found BAWE-1001144 under the hood on the "block" (not sure what its called). Any idea what year that would be?

Thanks for the help

It is a BF30A Not BF30AW, AX, AY etc. It is somewhere between a 1995 and 1997. They did not have specific model years during that period. It is the first model of the BF30 that was made. It really has not changed a whole lot since.

Hope that helps.

Sorry for jumping in, Jimmy.

Mike
