Early 2000s bf50 tiller

Hi ... New to forum , retired mechanic... now I guess Honda outboard collector... recently acquired a bf50, non running but complete... engine was locked ... disassembled and middle cyl rod bearing gone... full inspection and everything else looks good and measured up ok including connecting rod.
Used crank, waiting on bearings... I think that is fairly straightforward.
The flywheel has had one of the metal plates that sits on the inner surface of a magnet separate with no other visible damage.
Question... is that plate required.... is there a repair... used flywheel?
Thanks in advance.
Will post image tomorrow

Cleaned all old adhesive off.... scratched up surfaces with 40 grit sandpaper... drilled some divits in metal....cleaned with lacquer thinner... high heat jb weld... 550 degrees... we will see what happens

Well.....
I'm a fan of the JB Weld for lots of stuff. So, I hope that works for you.

Just make sure you allow it to cure about 3 or 4 times longer than you think it needs.

I would guess that, if it holds ok through the first heat cycle, it might just hold forever.

Still, I'd say you're a brave warrior for bringing this old gal back.

Looking forward to reading about your triumph!

Welcome to the forum and good luck.

Looks like your JB patch worked.

But, I gotta say, you're very brave to let it idle that long with no water flow. I was cringing thinking of what the head temp might be getting to in the chambers.

It's has water flow... hose hooked up... fly wheel be coming back off to check... also have to replace insulation on charge coils.
You should be able to see stream out indicator in video... ran for about an hr.

Oh! OK! Good.
Must be my old eyes.

If the JB don't work, what about a spot weld?

Anyway, nice job so far....sounds pretty healthy to me.

Ya hard to tell in video sound , because of open exhaust.... but engine mechanical is nice and quiet.... while waiting for parts I adjusted valves... did a compression check before startup and all are good... and equal .... oil pressure check on startup good... skeg to be replaced before lower unit install.
Looking to buy extended handle with ign and trim control.... have all winter to hunt parts down.
I have two bf25's with extended handle that would work but they are running motors and would prefer not to strip.

Well, not bad for an engine basically taken out of the trash.(y)

Try some decarbonizing treatments after you get it dialed in and that might come up even a bit more.

I have no concerns about compression... could not test prior to crank install...so test done on cylinders that had not run in at least a couple yrs, I was not expecting 150 on dry cylinders and did not add oil on purpose ... I was basicly looking for any issues that should be attended to before full assembly .... by the way thanks for your input.... enjoy the back and forth and welcome all suggestions

And thank you for posting here what you're doing. This might help someone with a 50 that, otherwise, they might not feel confident in trying to get it going again. A site like this really needs good mechanics to help folks and answer questions. I welcome your presence and hope that you stick around.

After about 2 hrs of tank time engine sounds really good.... stripped the remote wiring order a start button.... currently using a kill switch as starter button.... Will put a trim toggle on left side of tiller throttle.
Will put this to bed for about 3 months now as the water is getting stiff.

Nice! I like the way it sounds.

It looks a lot be than I thought it might too. Seems you're gonna end up with a real sweetheart when you're done.
