"2000 200hp 2 stroke, aprox 75

"2000 200hp 2 stroke, aprox 750hours. Buzzer and oil light started going off at around 2500rpm.
Engine would drop down to around 2000rpm. as I understand that what it's supposed to do. Mechanic disassembled oil system, cleaned sensors, filters, etc. Put in fresh oil, etc. Next time out, totally quit, seized up, after running about 18 mn. No lights or buzzer or throtlling back. Just "clunk" and it was history.
Of couse "the man" won't admit screwing up. Tore it down. One piston is scarred. He blamed it on "cheap" oil I used. (Super Tech Marine twc3 from Wal-Mart).Any advice welcome (I'm not mechanically-minded). Can it be fixed? New motor?
Re-built motor? 2 or 4 sroke? What brand recommended, etc? Also possibly sell for parts."

"Lee, a decent shop can do a t

"Lee, a decent shop can do a total rebuild for 2k or less - compare that to the cost of a new 200 horse - and buying a used one is a crap shoot at best.

Modern motors get an incredible amount of horsepower out of relatively small amount of displacement - at 750 hours a rebuild would not be considered "abnormal" it's just unfortunate it had to happen due to negligence..

If the motor suited your needs and is in decent shape otherwise, I would have it rebuilt..."

"Graham, thanks for the advice

"Graham, thanks for the advice. I think the mechanic saw me comming. First trip: Replaced impeller (as I didn't know at the time it was the oil system causing the alarms, and he did't check. No big deal, as it was over due for impeller. Also new thermostats.) Also had tilt/trim repaired, as it had been out for awhile.
Trim tab (sac.. anode) was about gone, so I had him repace that. Total: $963.72 (and I went and picked up impeller kit, etc., about 2 hour round trip.) Second time to shop: $75 to work on the oil sys..(after I realized that was the prob..)
Upon bringing the boat home, noticed the new trim tab was gone, after sitting one night at his shop.
(guess I was lucky no electronics, etc, got ripped off.) Ordered another one ($34.18) and put it on myself. 3rd time in (after the motor quit), he charged me $480 to tear the motor down, only to tell me he couldn't rebuild it. ?????????????
