Hello, what alternative starters are there for this engine?

Do you mean type or brand?

There are air powered and hydraulic type besides electrical.

As far as eletrical type brand goes, the only one I'm familiar with is Delco Remy.

But then, I woke up a few days ago and discovered that I had become an old timer. So, there's definitely lots of stuff I'm completely unaware of.

There are many. Most engines of a similar size and most US brands use the same starter.
3406 Cat and Cummins HRB, HRF, NH, NTO fit.
Try ebay or a truck stop. I've got a few from there and they all still work.
I was 75 before I realized I was elderly.
