Delayed starting of 99 mercury EFI 175 ????

99 Mercury EFI 175 S/N og842249, when i turn key to on position i get the beep, when i turn it to crank position, i have to hold in crank position for approx. 3-5 seconds before engine begins to turn over, once it turns over it cranks right up and runs fine, i have already change the neutral safety interlock in the shift box, which is a quicksilver 3000 classic. Is there a fuel pressure or relay that has to be achieved before the engine will start to turn over ?

No ....check your battery connections at battery and motor. If good check starter and solenoid.

pulled ignition switch, squirt some WD-40 in keyhole, actuated key several times, starts fine now, must have been making bad contact within switch.
