hand-turns normally in both directions about 3/4 rev and then a hard stop.
----
merc 60hp 2 stroke 1995 - i loved that engine with all my soul:(
----
was having overheating problems
put in new t-stat
seemed ok for a bit
got hot again

pulled out t-stat , lots of water pumping, left the t-stat out and tried it, engine cooled quickly (at the dock). figured it was ok.

headed out, within a minute it gets very hot (i felt a loss of power) so i turn it off.

wait a bit to cool and go to restart.

starter hits, but crank will not turn past a certain point before ?hitting? something after moving less than one turn in both directions.

.....
cylinder sleeve?
broken spark plug tip?

but why was it moving fine one second then not the next????

please help.

Pull out the plugs - then turn the fly back and forth and stick a brass rod in the plug hole and see if all the pistons are moving. Probably not? Hope they do ...

My bet is sleeve moved/slipped backwards....

yeah, well, the plot thickens (dammit!)

after this happened i left it for one day and then came back, hoping for a miracle i spin the crank, same thing happens - <1rev and hard stop.

so now it's 2 days since then, i go back to haulout , try it again - now it's frozen, won't budge in either direction - seized?!?! god no!!!

time for a new boat?
