Couple OMC Cobra P/S questions

The manual for my 1990 5.7 omc cobra said to grease the P/S actuator valve via the zerk fitting on the valve as a regular maintenance item.
My question is how do you know when you have the correct amount of grease in the actuator valve?
The manual said that it should hold about 1 oz of grease and not to over lube the valve as over lubing may damage the valve.
Today I greased the valve and gave it 4 or 5 pumps which comes out to aproxx 1/2 to 3/4 of a oz of grease by volume I want to make sure I didn't over lube.

Also can the P/S actuator and P/S assembly be replaced with out removing the engine?

Yup, but you will need to hire one of those 12 year old Chinese acrobats who can touch their nose with their big toe. The actuator is held in with two pivot bolts. The one on the steering arm is particularly troublesome, at least in my experience.
This whole mess is something I ditched straight away when I first got the boat and installed hydraulic steering. I have two helms and a single steering cylinder bolted to the transom. Works great.
