Aloha to all....Doing some work on my motors. Got them running, BIG thanks to Mike!!!! Just need to sync. Not a problem however the flow of water is not a full solid stream. Tried sticking some 130lb test mono and it helped but still not a solid stream. Checked all of the intakes, not blocked and impellers are brand new. Does anybody have pics or know where I can go to get a blown up pic of direction of waterflow? Maybe somewhere is a little clogged where the mono can't reach. Mono went in about a foot. It did help big time, it didn't have anything before. Any help would be appreciated!!!! Thanks...

Do not know of any pictures of waterflow for this engine.

If you have access to compressed air.....run the engine on a hose and shoot compressed air back into the telltail hole. Give a a little time to recover, then shoot it again.....do this several times. If there are any nest type things in the passage, that should help break them up and let them pass, either through the telltail or through the exhaust, once it goes through the rest of the engine.

Thanks Mike, I will try that. Do I do any damage to the engine shooting air into it? Do I need to worry about blowing some gaskets? When I first dropped the leg, in the side intakes, there were some impeller pieces in there that I cleaned out. Do you think that there is more in the cooling system? If so, how do I get to them or what areas should I look into. Thanks for your info!!

Not to butt in...butt,
You ask good questions. If it were me, I would regulate the air pressure down to around 50 psi. I really don't think that you could hurt anything with higher pressure, it being an "open" system but why tempt fate? About the only access you have for finding "pieces" is the thermostat. You can take that off and you might even be able to do a little "back flush" while in there.

Since the mono line probing made an improvement, there is definitely some debris rolling around in there. Might not be impeller but, you never know. I think a good back and forth with the thermo housing off should get most of it.

Good luck and let us know what you find.

I have not had any issues using compressed air....I do it all the time. But if concerned, do as Jimmy suggests.

Did you find enough pieces of the impeller to reconstruct the old impeller? If not, some are still in there.

Drop your lower unit again and look up your water tube to see if you see any debris. Remove your thermostat. There may be some debris there. Then take a garden hose and hold it up to the thermostat holes and backflush. Hopefully, that will force any pieces out of the tube.

This part will get someone wet......after you have backflushed to your satisfaction, have someone put their finger on the end of the water pipe (blocking it) and see if water comes out your telltail. It should only take a few seconds, put water will spray a lot.

Thanks alot for all of the info Mike and Jimmy. Just trying to resolve the issues myself if can because having to have this stuff done at the shop would be kinda expensive. I really appreciate the info, it has really helped me alot!!!! Thanks guys!!!! Mike, to answer your question, when I first dropped the lower leg, ALL of the fins on the impeller were gone. Only the rounded part was there that sits on the shaft. I found and cleaned all of the pieces in the side intakes. Too me, no it wasn't enough to makeup all of the fins. I think I need to go hunting for them. I think I will drop the leg and take off the thermo and flush it. Will also blow some air into the telltail and see if anything comes out of the water tube. I will let you guys know how it turns up!!!! Thanks for the info again!!!! Aloha.....

I agree with everyone else, you still have pieces of impeller in there. Isn't there a water jacket cover that can be removed? Worst case scenario is you have to remove the powerhead and clean the channels exposed on the bottom, but maybe I am thinking of a mercury outboard that has channels between the powerhead and exhause plate. Good luck!!!

Thanks "thebubba" I will also try that too. Will do all of that when I take everything apart. Will let everyone know how it turns up!!!! Much aloha for all of the info guys!!! Aloha!!!!

The waterflow from the hose, will push out the impeller pieces before the air. But.....you might try both individually then together and see what happens.

I will definitely do that when I drop the legs!!! Thanks a bunch for all of the info!!! Will let you know how things turn out! Until then ALOHA!!!!!

Aloha to all, (Mike, Jimmy and thebubba),,
Thanks a bunch for all of the suggestions!!!!! Yes there it was, the rest of the impellers were in the water jacket area and caught in the thermostat spring!!!! Took out and cleaned, back flushed from the thermostat opening and from the water intake tube. Alot of pieces came out the top after shooting water from the leg water tube. Did that back and forth several times. Sure did the job. Since I was in there, changed all the gaskets and thermostats for both motors. Just wanted to thank you guys for assistance!!! Surely it saved me some $$$$$!!! Not to much more for me, just painting the boat is left. Again, much aloha to you guys!!!! Thanks and have a great day!!!!!

AwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwRIGHT!

Good news and Goodonya!

Aloha back atchya too!

Now, time to go have some cooling system worry free FUN!
