Conventional Wet Cell Battery only with 96 Evinrude 130?

My Brother was told if he used other than a Conventional Wet Cell Battery with his 96 Evinrude 130 V4 that the Charging System would be damaged. Is this correct?

Common sense would suggest that the recommendation is bunch of nonsense. I found an article by an expert (Peter D'Anjou) which should answer your question."Marine Battery Types and Charging Tips"

You have a regulated system and all factory manual states is: "Minimum of 360CCA(465MCA) 12Volt with 90 reserve minutes" so a AGM will work.
