I am looking at a 1989 150 evinrude to purchase. It has 60 pounds compression on all six. 1 Is that ok. 2 will that reduce the power to be like 90 motor. 3 should I not buy motor. thanks
 
If they are even it is a good sign.----But perhaps the gauge was made by the ---hooflungdung ----Company.----Test with a know good quality gauge before spending your cash !!
 
Make sure you have a good battery when checking and the motor is spinning over fast enough. Check with all the spark plugs out of the cylinders.

All good points so far. the boat the motor was on was not safe for water test. how would low compression effect performace?

60 pounds is terrible. If in fact you determine that is accurate, don't buy the motor unless you are in the parts business.
