Clicking / Knocking - Fuel pump?

I've taken my cowling and the plastic side pieces off to sand down and paint. But I decided to fire up the motor on the hose today just to run let it run for a little bit. I heard a constant clicking/knocking noise and it definitely was coming from the port side towards the back of the engine. In all honesty, I feel like the sound was coming from what appears to be a fuel pump maybe just down below of the port side cylinder head?

Would this be pretty normal to be hearing a constant clicking/knocking noise from the pump? Could I have just never heard it before because the plastic pieces below the cowling were always on whenever the engine was on before?

Just curious.

I've never really tried to listen to my 225 high pressure fuel pump operating while the engine is running, so cannot say for sure whether or not that is normal. What could be happening is that the pump is cycling on and off because the float valve in the VST is opening and closing, which would be normal at idle. Bottom line, if the engine is running well otherwise, I wouldn't worry about it.

The low pressure fuel pump is on the lower port cylinder head cover. Could that be what it is?

It's piston is driven by the cam. They do get chatty if they do not have a good amount of fuel in them.

I never paid that much attention to how loud they are normally.

Thats the one I'm talking about! It certainly makes a bit of noise for sure! I guess this is normal?
