Carburetor question

I have a 1995 125 hp outboard Mariner I cleaned the the 4 carburetors on it. The question is. On the side next to the idle mixing screws their is a threaded hole. With no plug on that orifice and it goes the bowl of carburetor. What is this passage for. All 4 carburetors have this hole. Thank you.

Where the fuel bowl jet went...not all carbs on the 2+2 motas use em...

I would have thought maybe they should be plugged
