The trim motor went in my 70 johnson. Problem is the bolt/valve you unscrew to manually lift the lower unit is corroded and I cant get a screwdriver on it to open it. Any suggestions on how to lift the unit so I can replace the trim motor ? Thanks so much

The main bolts are usually at the bottom.2. Remove then then loosen the engine mountings to the transom to make wider by about 1 inch and the unit should come free.

My v6 has a reservoir. If you have one ,then open it and drain the hydraulic oil from the system. Put a floor jack under the skeg and slowly lift it to help force the oil out. Once the engine is up, use a 1/4" drive ratchet with a swivel and a 3" extension to get the back corner bolt. The other three are easy to access.

I just saw your question about drilling out the release. I have been told it can be done, but if you slip, your tilt/trim assembly is trashed, and you can't remove it without the engine fully tilted.Try draining that oil first.

Well I managed to get the plug out. What I did was take my Dremel oscillating tool and ground down the blade on both sides to fit in the hole where the plug was and made a new slot for the screwdriver. Then I took an impact driver and gave it a couple of good wacks and the plug loosened up
