Hello,
Can someone please help!!! I have just recently replace my 1990 OMC 5.7 engine due to carcks in the block. I am at the point of running it and want to break it in. I cant get the engine to stay running. It will start and turn over then rev up and the die instantly. I also replace the wire harness that connects everything to the engine bay. I followed the wire diagram as shown from the service manual of the boat. The ignition is electronic with a flame thrower coil. It will stay running if i put a jumper from the Pos+ side of battery direct to the pos+ side of the coil. But it wont stay running if i take it off. I also read somewhere about resistors for ESA? When i removed the old engine I found a make shift rig job from the old owner with a bunch of resistors just hanging on to the the coil but have no idea where they went to. If you can help please help me.

It sounds like the engine had been converted from points to an electronic ignition system. To make the ESa system work properly when doing the converision two diodes and two restitors have to be installed inbetween the (-) side of the coil and the ESA module. I have the schematic for how to wire the resistors and diodes in will try to scan it into the PC and post it on here. Try unhooking the ESA and see if the engine will run

Ok my next question is how do i know that the ESA is working? testing etc. and also i defintly would appreciate it if you could post the schematic that you have. You have no idea how much you have helped me because i was stumped at this point. haha
