Can I Replace the Power Head?

Hey folks, looking for some opinions. I'm a handy guy, do my own car maintenance, fix things around the house, etc. I'm not a mechanic other than brake changes, oil changes, etc. general maintenance.

I have a 2004 Mercury 90 HP 2-stroke. I had issues with it and took it to a marina to get it check. Turns out, its a blown engine, and they said the power head needs replaced. This is something that I would like to do myself. Strip the power head, send it off to get it machined, etc. and replace it. I'm hesitant because I look at it and think I can do it, but looking for an idea of how difficult it actually is? I've looked a few YouTube vids, but nothing too informative. What do you all think?

Dont forget you need to find why it failed and correct that also.
Before I would tear it apart check compression, If that is even. I would look at the spark plugs. I am not going to explain oh how to read them but google can tell you.
With that said if compression is even. I would think the pistons and rings are ok.
If a reed valve was not sealing you would should have a missfire and etc.
It is lot of work to replace them.
If you want to do this on your own just buy the service manual.

Hey, thanks for the reply. I should have mentioned that compression is very low on the middle and bottom cylinder. Its been a while since I checked them. But the top is like 120, middle is like 35, and bottom is like 20.

I will definitely take your advice and buy the service manual.
