I just bought a 1989 bayliner capri 2150. Took it out for the first time and at full throttle it starts popin sounds like its coming from carb.

Poping like sounds the Pope would make? Is it saying Mass? GLORIA PATRI, et Filio, et Spiritui Sancto?

Maybe you mean it is popping as if it were backfiring through the carburetor. This is usually associated with the timing being out of kilter. Also at high revs a sticking valve will do much the same thing.
Check timing setting first and see what happens.

is the popping steady or is it erattic, like no pattern? steady pattern I would say stuck valve, erattic , or no pattern to the popping I would say a Burned valae or seat.

Ayuh,... I'm with Dockside,... It's goin' Lean....

Change the fuel filters for starters, 'n inspect it's contents for Water....

I gotta agree with Bondo as well. The engine is " leaning out ". My old V6 Buick did the same thing when the Fuel Pump was dying. It sounded like a backfire without the bang. Kinda like fuff, fuff, out the Carb. Would run fine all the way up to WOT. After that, fuff, fuff,. I did a Compression Test, and Leak Down, and both were fine.
I installed a new fuel pump late last year. Now, the Boat can pop a " wheelie " !!

All I gotta do is cure the " stalls at idle while in gear after a bit " problem.

Rumors of a new Coil this year.

That's the last thing left to do...LMAO !!!!!!

Stalls when you put it into gear, or after a few seconds in gear.
