Black Max 150 (1988 Model) needs a push to start trim down

Hi, I have a 1988 BlackMax 150 and recently I found that the trim down (from the upmost point used when boat is moored) needs a bit of a push (with my foot while I press the trim down button and as soon as it starts moving, then all is fine). I did notice that it has taken some extra time to start going down in the last few months but now it won't go down without a little push. After the push it is fine and trim up is not a problem at all. Any ideas of what I should do, could I be short of oil (Would this model be hydraulic ? Everything is internal and there is obvious pump outside the engine of on the hull. Or could there be some other mechanism screw type of component that may have gotten worn on the end which may need replacing ? Any ideas welcome cheers Mark

I have seen a problem similar to this a couple of times and found the tilt cylinder(center) scuffed up internally.....

Put the engine all the way up, remove the fill cap and listen for the air purge, top off the fluid and cycle the pump, repeat.

Hi, I have tried to find the fill cap as described in the service manual for a "System B" but it is nowhere to be found. This system appears to be a little diffrerent than a standard "System B"

In the spot where the fill cap is supposed to be, it is just a whole on the bracket and the cowl over the port side pump has nothing like any kind of fill cap.

It also has a plastic screw type of thing at the bottom of the port side pump and I have ni idea what it is for . Strange that it is plastic and I have not dared to to try and turn it yet.

Any ideas what this system is based on the picture I have attacted ? Could it be something newer that was replaced at some stage ?

cheers

Mark

Hi Chris, thanks for the info. I'll go and fill it up (Looks like a large screwdriver is to be used). I did find a reference to this yesterday in a manual I found for later models of this engine.

cheers
