Bigfoot 25 - Temperature Alarm?

Hi,

Have just purchased a 2001 Bigfoot 25. Goes great however the boat is not fitted with a temperature gauge.

How do I tell / find out if my throttle unit up front is equipped with an over temp alarm, and better still, how can it be tested?

The engine has a spare tan wire under the good however upon connecting a new temperature gauge I get no reading. Assume I need a sender unit fitted.

Any advice greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

If equipped when you turn key to on there should be a audible beep, The tan wire is for the overheat sensor on cylinder head, Grounding that wire should set off alarm with key on, I don't believe it is the right sensor for a gauge

Thans Johnny. I do not get an uaudble beep when I turn theignition. Boat mechaic told me not all ignition system do this.

The outbard has temperature senderin the head, which has wires going to the CU.

I guess I just have to trust it will shut the engine down, or let me know somehow if there is an overheat situation.

New Impeller, Therostat, gearbox oil, engine oil, plugs and associated o-rings / seals.

I dont currently have an overheat issue.

My question is how do I know my system has an overheat alarm / how do I test this?

While engine is running place hand in telltale stream is she getting so hot you can't keep your hand there indeffinitely, something is wrong. Place hand on cylinder head, can you hold it there for a six second count without burning, everything is ok. A 20$ digital infrared thermometer will tell the whole story, that sending sensor will not shut engine off in a overheat condition. Have you looked in your owners manual for information on said engine
