BF60A trim problems

Hey there.
The trim in our bf60a slowly sinks down until about a 90 degree angle and then just stops, pushing down won’t get it any further then that either. We’re all stumped.

1. Sinking
2. Won’t go all the way down (will on manual release)
3. Very slow going up then normal speed
4. Gets pretty hot after running the motor up and down a few times

Hi,
I don't have quick or surefire answer for you. My experience with trim "repair" is putting seals or motors and brushes in a few BF20D units years ago. A real pita IMO. I'm not a "hydraulics tech" either.

Did you back into anything or did someone run into your stern before this began happening?
If so, check for dents in the tilt cylinder case and focus on the possibility of any small leaks as a result.

Check that the spool valve cap is tight Item 25 in link.

Those can be loose. Usually because they are mistaken for the manual valve, loosened and then not securely re-tightened.

If you're checking it on a trailer, prepare to catch as much overflow as you can and remove the cap. It sounds as if your guy may have overfilled it.

If not that, it may still have air trapped. These things can be fairly stubborn about getting all the air out after being empty or used while fluid level is low. It can take quite a bit of time cycling it, letting it sit, topping it off and repeating.

if that doesn't help, then my best guess would be a "sticky" check valve or the the spool valve (item 23 in link)

Again, just some guesses about looking for the cause. I am far from being a good trim mechanic or a hydraulocs guru. Just hoping to maybe be of some help.

Good luck.
