BF60A/BFP60A Overheat?

I have a BF60A on my tender and its driving me crazy, With the temp gauge at a solid 158F the overheat alarm goes off at any rpm above 1500. I have flushed it several times with both CLR and 30% vinegar in a giant bucket, replaced the spark plugs, changed the oil, replaced the thermostat, cleaned under the side plate of the engine, and done a complete water pump replacement with OEM parts. What are the odds of a head gasket issue without any other symptoms (water in oil etc)? Is there a poppet valve in the lower?

Thanks all for the help!

Just a guess but you might want to take a look at the connector plug for your water temperature sensor.

I say that because this sounds like it could be a connection problem that's being triggered by harmonic vibrations.

But, again, just a guess.

Good luck.

I don't work on these nor do I have the service information (shop manual) so, that's why I have to say I'm guessing as to what might be causing your issue.

Having said that, the water temp sensor sends a signal to the Electronic Control Unit (ECU) and it should set the alarm if the temperature gets too high.

However, you report a temperature of 158°f which, in my opinion, isn't high enough to trigger an alarm. That's why I suggested that it may be a connectivity issue "fooling" the system.

The ECU is inside the Electronic Components case mounted on the side of the engine. It is labled E-20 in the link below:

The ECU has two large connectors where it plugs into the main wiring harness. I would also check those for being secure.

But you may find that you're going to need help from the Dr.H diagnostics figuring this out which means a trip to the dealer.

Sorry I can't be of more help.

Been ohm testing the ox sensor and any sensor i can find data on, can anyone here tell me what triggers the overheat alarm? I cant find any data on how the alarm is triggered, and if the temp sensor does it, or is it another sensor.

Thanks all for the help, much appreciated.
