2007 bf50a tile trim oil tank is cracked. The part is no longer available does anyone have this problem and solution. Can I epoxy it or is there to much pressure. If I have to get a whole new unit will a newer one work on it?

Hi,
Sorry this happened to you. A real bummer for sure!

I'm not an "ex-spurt" (a drip that was, at one time, under pressure) but I've repaired a few on the smaller twins....ie: BF8D, BF20D and they are similar to the one for the 50hp.

There shouldn't be any pressure in the tank that I'm aware of unless a peculiar seal failure might cause something like that. I don't know if that's a possibility or not.

But, to save $1,400,. I would definitely give an epoxy repair a try. You would need to get the crack completely clean of any oil for the epoxy to adhere properly but I do think it would work.

I also think that the new replacement offered will fit if it comes to that. Again though, just my opinion.

Hopefully others here with more experience will answer and offer their thoughts.

Hoping you get it sorted out without too much more grief.

Good luck.

Well that gives me something else to consider if no pressure in tank and it is leaking there ty for the heads up on that . I’ll check the parts diagram to see location of seal to see if I should attempt it . Ty

There is a commercial epoxy called Belzona available, extremely strong, used in high heat and pressure situations to repair cracks. Used in pipelines and to repair high heat things like cast iron exhaust manifolds. Approved by the ABS for commercial vessels.

Great stuff but not cheap. Cheaper to likely buy a new pump, if you find one that works.

A friend has a 1947 Willys pickup with a just rebuilt 4 cylinder engine. It developed a water jacket crack in the cast iron block. Choice was take it all apart and weld- no guarantee it will work. Or Belzona.

If forced to try Belzona, best to find a friend in the oil patch or who does shipyard work.

Just another option where there is no other.
