Ive had this oil filter (box picture) for a few months and just went to change it and was making sure its compatible with the old one (filter not in box picture). I am guessing someone told me months back that this filter would work but I figured I would ask first. Thanks

Come on guys, I know its a stupid question but I know nothing about outboards and dont want to put this in and have my engine explode. Can someone just check in?

Find the Honda equivalent part number then go to a local NAPA store and cross reference it to their equivalent NAPA filter. Do the same for that Quick Silver filter. If the NAPA filter is equivalent to both, then it will likely work. But for the cost of a filter, why bother. Just order the correct Honda filter, or find a NAPA Gold equivalent.

Is there any way to find the original part number? I assume the people I bought the motor from used the correct one but it is like 10+ years old so I dont know. I bought the new filter off Amazon and it says its a replacement for the BF30a motor but it still bothers me that the manual doesnt give me a part number to use.

When I look up the part number 35-822626Q03 from the one I pulled from it before it shows its for a Mercury four stroke which I am sure is fine since I ran it for a while but still would like to be able to find the original filter part number so I can pick up a few. I have no problem spending the money since they are cheap I just dont know what one to get. Thanks and I appreciate the response

I've had very good results from using the equivalent NAPA Gold on my Honda 225 (Honda 15400-PLM-A01PE = NAPA Gold 1356.)

NAPA equivalent for both filters. Good call! Thank you I picked up a few NAPA gold filters earlier!

You better check the Honda oil filter number again. The number the you list ...the ......A01P is for 75 HP Hondas and above.

The right number for some BF30A's is 15400-PFB-014. I say some because there are some other model years use a 15400-PFB-007.

Sorry, I did not jump in earlier...been kinda busy.

Also, be very wary or so call "equivalents". The ones that would probably be closest would be Sierra or Mercury brand. For this size motor I have found the the Nissan oil filters are exactly the same as the Honda and they make many of the Mercury's in this size...so Mercury will make sure that their filter is the same, but it is painted and marked differently. Sierra is dedicated to Marine type products and I would think they would make sure their specs are correct.

I would beware of various ones that are from auto parts manufacturers...since they sometimes have several in each brand that are "equivalent"....how can you have more than one that is "equivalent" from the same manufacturer. On the A01P filter....I think that is also used in many of Hondas automobiles, so the FRAMS etc should be pretty close, but who really knows? ........ Just my thoughts.....

I am sure that many of you have had success with certain aftermarket filter and I am glad things worked out.

The only absolute I will say here is....if you motor is still in the warranty period, only use the Honda filter.

Post your serial number and I will let you know which filter you are supposed to use.

Mike

PS...Put the Honda part number in the Part Number Search at the top of this page and it will generally give you at least the Sierra equivalent.

Taymag - Just to be clear, that list generated by Illesheim71 is for bigger Honda's. As Mike said. most of the 30A's use 15400-PFB-014 or equivalent.

Also, reinforcing what Mike said, I only switched to the NAPA filters after I was well out of warranty, and by necessity when a Honda filter was not available. My personal observation was that the NAPA Gold filters seemed to keep the oil cleaner a bit longer.

To keep that engine running for a long life, religiously change the oil AND filter every 100 hours or at the end of every season, whichever comes first.

No apologies necessary. I appreciate the list of equivalents.

Let me suggest that you post that on a new thread so that a search on "Honda oil filter 15400-PLM- A01PE Equivalents" can use that as a reference. You may want to add NAPA 1356.
