BF225 Internal Anodes

Just got done replacing the internal anodes on my 2003 BF225. This required removing the exhaust manifolds. I ended up replacing the exhaust guide seal because the shop manual stated not to reuse it (5-146). Turns out, it would have been a 100x easier to just leave the old ones in there. They are installed with a liquid gasket and to remove all the liquid gasket is incredibly inconvenient to say the least. If you don't remove the old liquid gasket, you cannot install the new seal and put the manifold back on. It just doesn't re-seat right. I did not see in the manual where it said anything about a liquid gasket. It just showed that you need to grease the exhaust guide seal (5-146). I re-installed the guide seal with grease and put the manifold back on. That's when I noticed that on page 8-4, (the actual page for installing the guide seals) it states that you need to add a bead of liquid gasket to the guide seal. Is the grease that I added not going to be enough? Do I have to redo the entire process and add that liquid gasket to the guide seal? I think I know the unfortunate answer, but am hoping for the best. Also, could I have just not removed the old guide seals to begin with?

Thanks!

sounds like you know what your doing. I have twin BFF 225s and my mechanic says he replaced the impeller and water pump in the lower unit but I'm getting very little exhaust water coming out of the top exhaust tube. the lower ones seem fine. assuming my mechanic is correct, what else can the problem be?
