BF200 - hole in extension and SB56

If anyone has a copy of SB56 please send it to me. I checked with Honda and it wasn't done. dinmax82 at gmail.com

When I bought the boat sight unseen I had a mechanic check over the motor and he checked the bushing but didn't check the damn lower extension under the cowling. There is a hole in both motors on my WC266SC.

Looking for the lower extension for it but there are three different part numbers.

Called up Honda and they can't help me. Called a Honda dealer and he called Honda and said part is 40201-ZY3-020ZA. Boats.net and iboats don't list this part number, just the older part numbers, some other sites do list the new one though. Honda actually only has one of these part numbers in stock. Any idea where to see anybody that stocks these?

Will SB56 affect whether or not the new extension works? What comes with the extension case?

My starboard motor beeps and the light on the Worldcat blinks sometimes while running. Mechanic is supposed to hook up computer and see if he can figure it out.

Thanks,
Dien

I had the same problem with twin BF225. Call Boat.net directly and talk to the parts department. They can will order the correct extension case kit. Have the engine serial number and the transom center measurement. The kit has bushing, impeller cover, washer, etc. Good Luck.

I sent Honda SB # 56. It deals with water getting up into the exhaust tubes and blowing the HO2 sensor AND possibly allowing water incursion into cylinder # 6. The SB tells how to mitigate the problem (Pager 7) and how to do the repair. Honda sells a kit for the entire repair.

Let me make sure I understand the issue. On your motors the mid-shaft bearing failed and ate through the lower casing. Is that correct? If so, it was not a very unusual problem on the earlier 200's and 225's. Jamie (Aristikat Charters) had the same issue and repaired them on his own. He had many posts describing the issue and how he found and replaced those casings. So search the forum for those postings by Aristikat, or contact him directly. He runs a diving charter service in Florida.

If I recall correctly, the new replacement lower casings allowed more water onto the bushing and gave it better lubrication.

I saw his thread on the issue in 2013 when he had to redo it again! Cant find the one from 2012 if he made one, i assume that one would have pictures and more explanations.

so did anyone try running without the bearing?
