BF15A year and parts

Hi all. I recently acquired what I’m assuming is a pre-1997 BF15A Short Shaft. I’m trying to figure out what year it is and if an impeller and gasket from the current models will fit on it. If not, suggestions on where to order parts.
The number plate on the side reads
BAAL-1001082 and the actual model number reads (BF15A). It has the white cowling with a black and red sticker reading
“HONDA
4 STROKE”
Thank you in advance.

Hi,

Boats.net lists your frame number as a "pre 1997" but it doesn't show any extension case other than a long shaft....
....LA (pull start) or LAS.(electric start)

The waterpump impeller, housing, gaskets and cover (wiper plate) are still available. See items 2, 3, 4, and 5 in the link

The impeller drive key (item 24) is not available but you can probably find one at a good hardware store since it's just a Woodruff key. Inspect yours carefully before opting to reuse it.

If yours is indeed a short shaft...15 inch...then I can't tell you why they don't list one. But, my experience is that, for most models anyway, the short shaft and long shaft models use the same pump part number. You could try asking them via chat but their customer info isn't great anymore (AI crap) so I wouldn't count on an accurate answer.

Hope this helps,

Good luck.

Not sure if this would apply to your outboard but if you look at the right hand column about 9 or 10 rows down, it lists a starting frame number of BAAL 1000001 on two separate lines.

The first line is for 1987 BF15AH LD and LDS

The second line is for 1987 BF15AH SD and SDS

This is all I could dig up at the moment.

I am FAR from being an expert at this stuff and I haven't even found what the letter D stands for. But I'm fairly certain the first letter L is for long shaft (20") and the First letter S is for short shaft (15") with the third letter S indicating electric starter.

I do tend to think that the year 1987 might be accurate because you mentioned the white cowl with black and red sticker. I believe those colors were only used on pre 1990 models. But, again, I could be way off.

Good luck fixin''er up
I love these old outboards!

Thank you! That’s awesome info. Cool that they still make most of the parts. Looking as well like some of them are the same layout as newer models.
I appreciate it!!
