Looking to rebuild my fuel pump on my 2002 BF15A outboard. I have the parts that are needed to do the work. What I'm not finding is do I need to drain the oil from the motor in order to remove fuel pump from motor. Thanks in advance for the info.

Hi,

No, you shouldn't need to drain the engine oil. The fuel pump should mount to the cylinder head valve cover and is powered by a lobe on the camshaft. Any oil up in that area will have drained back into the oil pan by the time you've removed the pump.

It looks like there's a fairly large hole for the pump in the valve cover. You should not leave that uncovered while working on the pump. Cover the hole with something that can't fall off or blow away to keep dust and debris from getting in there until you're ready to put the pump back on. ESPECIALLY if you're working outdoors.

Good luck and hope all goes well.
