Bf150s - random alarm

Hi All.

Thanks in advance for your time and advice.

I’m Running twin 2013 bf150s on an 2013 Seasport.

Last outing, while at cruising speeds (about 4200 rpm) I started getting an intermittent alarm while underway. The alarm is a loud steadily pulsing beep coming from the console where the gauges and controls are all mounted. It is not a steady tone, and all gauges read normal while happening. Not red light. No other tells on the digital readouts of the gauges. All systems normal, except the loud recurring beep.

After shutting it down, restarting the motors and getting back up to cruising speed the alarm would sound again. But There was no predictable cause or interval (like when your thermos start failing and sticking)

Sometimes i would run for half an hour before alarm. Other times just a few minutes before it started alarming. With the lack of any pattern and the lack of any other operational problems I could discern, I just finished the return to the docks and let the alarm scream. Sometimes it would stop after 15-20 beeps and start again a few minutes later. One alarm session lasted long enough I stopped counting.

Made it home just fine, pulled the boat and am preparing to start trouble shooting in the blind.

Any tips or ideas would be great.

It it helps, I bought the boat 4 yrs ago and have put about 500hrs on it since. I perform regular annual maintenance, along with some additional repair as things failed (coil pack, trim/tilt motor, impellers, etc). None of which immediately precede this latest alarm mystery so seem to be unrelated.

Hi,
The trim sensor can apparently cause this. I have no experience with it but attached is what I read about it happening on a BF50. Ian offered a way to shut it up.

I've also read that the on board fuel/water separator can cause the alarm to sound.

Good luck.

No lights on key switch and an alarm? sound like water in engine separator. Disconnect fuel water separator connection and restart engine if the continuous 4 beeps stops that was the problem. If beeping alarm stops you can finesse the engine separator out of the rubber mount and pass the side covers without taking the covers off. I would also remove and inspect fuel water separator on the boat if water is found there, I would replace boat filter and then squeeze the primer bulb a few times and flush fuel line before putting engine separator cup back on.

Thank you! I’ll dig into your suggestions and report back
Update.

Found water in the port engine sensor/separator (clear bulb). Cleaned everything and replaced the inline filter (other bulb) which looked discolored. Will do starboard after a test run to see if that might have been the alarm issue.

Raycor filter on the port fuel line was also tainted, so it looks like I have some water in or getting into the port fuel tank. Made sure to pull clean fuel before putting it all back together

Thank you

Just fyi...
Pump fuel is where most systems get water from and marina or camp ground fuel is typically the worst for contaminates IMO.

One reason I think that way is because I worked for a large, multi state multi facility recreation outfit contracting concessions for lakes and camping venues.

Facility maintenance was done on a shoestring budget as it was but refrigeration and ice machines got the most attention (beer/soda sales) while food prep and gas fueling stations got the least.

That's why I avoid gassing up at those places as well as "dining out". YUCK.
