BF150 Speed Sensor in gear box?

I got this small hose running from somewhere in the engine down to the propellor gearbox housing. The manual says it is for the Speed Sensor, however this is an air hose. Anyone have any idea what is in the gear box that measures this? And any idea why it is needed? I have tachometers for engine RPM and GPS that displays speed. I have nothing that reports speed from the engine

Thinking in not connecting it since hoses is busted now.

That is to the internal pitot tube and the tube should run all the way to your instrument panel. It measures speed on water (SOW). Look on the leading edge of your engine and you will likely see a small hole. They get easily clogged up. So, what I have done is cut the tube right before it exits the engine compartment, plug it, and installed a transom-mounted pitot.

The hose was used for the old way of measuring boat speed through the water.----No need for this hose if you have gone modern.

Got it. After posting the message I looked for the engine end of the hose. It was plugged. So now one less thing to worry about.

Thanks all
Paul
